For some it may be hard to reconcile with the concept of art as “content” in the digital age. Everything one does can feel like a drop in the river. Somehow, Music Band seems to have unconsciously fought for their own longevity over the past decade with a few key elements. The trust built between Harry Kagan, Lee Putney and Duncan Shea comes from a bond of friendship that feels rare among young rock and roll bands. They spent years self-booking, self-recording and self-promoting, creating an invaluable work ethic. And perhaps the most important factor is that je ne sais quoi: a mixture of sincerity and never taking themselves too seriously. Harry, Lee and Duncan formed Music Band in 2010 while living together as college students in upstate New York. Intended to be a temporary project stemming from a collective frustration by the dearth of local rock and roll bands, the trio found themselves moving to Nashville, TN together the next year, where they are currently based. There, the band found a community of like-minded artists and musicians that showed them genuine support and from early on. Before long, they released a full-length cassette, Can I Live, recorded by Andrija Tokic at his East Nashville studio Bomb Shelter (Alabama Shakes, Natural Child) and put out by the beloved local label Infinity Cat. After touring the US and Canada extensively, supporting bands like Jeff The Brotherhood and Diarrhea Planet, Music Band released their debut LP, Wake Up Laughing, with the help of Infinity Cat and Tokic once again. Their follow-up LP, recorded at home by the band’s own Duncan Shea, will be released by Canadian label Dine Alone Records
