Six Organs Of Admittance plus Comets On Fire in the orchestra pit equals ‘Ascent’.

Six Organs Of Admittance as an electric entity is not without precedent. Ben Chasny regularly performs with a full, electric band, often cascades an electric guitar solo in the middle of an acoustic jam, and has recorded entire sides of electric drone. This element goes all the way back to 2002, when a shortlived rock version of Six Organs (with the members of Comets On Fire) toured the West Coast and etched a few demos to tape before moving on. Ten years later, with the idea to record new songs as a full rock band firmly entrenched in his mind, Chasny warped over to Tim Green’s Louder Studios with members of Comets as his backing band.

From the opening red storm of ‘Waswasa’ to the sentinel strength of ‘Even If You Knew’ and the sensual lilt of ‘Breathe’, the sound on this spaceship is that of full-tilt rock band. The fun of classic-rock-sized Six Organs Of Admittance is evidenced in every molten groove, exhumed and erected like oxidized carnage on ‘They Called You Near’.

The cosmic / psychologic underpinnings of ‘Ascent’ are exactly what the zeitgeist is buzzing about here in 2012.

Many live shows are envisioned in many places across the planet on the ‘Ascent’ World Tour. The shows will be
played with a band to bring the ‘Ascent’ assault night after night.

Ben Chasny isn\’t just Six Organs Of Admittance – he’s a renaissance music man, participating in Rangda and 200 Years, as well as collaborating with Italy’s Starf*ckers and Portugal’s Gala Drop, amongst many others. Plus, there’s his soundtrack work. Can a book of poems be far behind?
