This 7” is the first new music from Cass McCombs, following the August release of his new album, ‘Heartmind’ (ANTI- Records), and the first Weak Signal release following their album, ‘War And War’ (Colonel Records), earlier this year.

Recorded to tape with few overdubs by Philip Weinrobe (Adrienne Lenker, Florist) and mastered by Carl Saff, the record achieves a warm, hard-hitting sound that is perfectly suited to the 7” format.

‘Vacation From Thought’, written and sung by McCombs, features a driving motorik drum beat from Tran, ripping guitar figures from legend Mike Bones, and precision backing vocals and bass work from Sasha Vine, who keeps pace with Cass as they take the listener on a trip to witness yet unseen birds, primordial ‘red-clay mud’ and much more.

The B-Side is the Weak Signal-written and Mike Bones-sung ‘Give It Back’, a devotional love song with a scorching guitar riff that will get stuck in your head for days. As with the best 45s, the ‘Vacation From Thought’ / ‘Give It Back’ 7” is truly a double A-Side.

Cass McCombs is touring the US and Europe throughout September and October. ‘Heartmind’ has picked up many favourable reviews, including an 8.1 by Pitchfork, who said, “Across a casually sublime album, Cass McCombs is at his most confident and intentional.”

Weak Signal are Mike Bones (guitar and vocals), Sasha Vine (bass and vocals) and Tran Huynh (drums). They have released two LPs – 2018’s self-titled and 2021’s ‘Bianca’ – as well as a split single with Endless Boogie, ‘Jerome’ / ‘Rolex’ in 2020.
