Blue Note Records’ Tone Poet series continues in June with the addition of Donald Byrd’s 1967 date Slow Drag — one of the last pure hard bop sessions that the reliably brilliant trumpeter would cut before his music began evolving towards fusion — and McCoy Tyner’s third Blue Note date Time For Tyner, which saw the great pianist assembling a hornless quartet to perform three expansive originals and three radically reinvented standards.

On his third Blue Note album pianist McCoy Tyner assembled a quartet with vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, bassist Herbie Lewis & drummer Freddie Waits for an album rich in ethereal textures that delivers visceral performances of three expansive Tyner originals and three radically reinvented standards.

This stereo Tone Poet Vinyl Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket.

McCoy Tyner (piano);
Bobby Hutcherson (vibraphone);
Herbie Lewis (bass);
Freddie Waits (drums)
