Norwich based Other Half (consisting of Cal, Alfie and Soapy) met through a mutual love of the UK DIY punk scene, driving a really long way to shout at people and (broadly) vegan slop. They are set to release their second album, Soft Action, via Big Scary Monsters (American Football, Cursive, The Get Up Kids, Meat Wave), in December 2022. Inhabiting a host of different narrators, some more savoury than others, Soft Action picks up where debut album Big Twenty left off. This time, however, the tone is a whole lot less celebratory, honing in on what happens when people and systems are unable and unwilling to change. The album is 14 stories from 14 different points of view, all chained to whatever ideology most suits them at the time. Some are vying for ascendancy, some are skulking around in the background but ultimately no one is really trying that hard. ‘Soft Action’ Soft Action finds Other Half distilling the sneering post-punk and sardonic storytelling that characterised their first album, whilst amplifying both the most melodic and dissonant parts of their sound. The discordant squall of Sonic Youth, the ragged hooks of Pixies and the searing intensity of bands like Converge, all underpinned with the barbed vocal interplay of singers Cal and Sophie. ====
