Folk-punk rabble – SKINNY LISTER – are back with their sixth studio album – written and recorded by the band, mixed by Patrick Phillips and mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Frank Arkwright. Features the recent single ‘Down On The Barrier’ which blends pogo-primed percussion, Pogues-y punk hooks, and a chorus that demands to be roared-out loud and proud. The rest of the album is a glorious, riotous mix of chest-thumping anthems, shanty sing-a-longs and folk/punk classics – Skinny Lister leaning into their roots more echoing the vibe of their first few albums.

The album is released on 20th October 2023 and coincides with a tour in North America including the Salty Dog Cruise with Flogging Molly before heading back to the UK for a headline tour which culminates with their Christmas gig at Lafayette in London. Track 1 – ‘Down On The Barrier’ – released as a single on 2nd June 2023 “Music is a kind of religion to many gig-goers – and in ‘Down On The Barrier’ we’ve tried to capture that feeling. The church in this case is the venue, the sermon – the song, the preacher – the artist. It’s a nod to those almost spiritual moments when we gather to enjoy some feel good communal rock’n’roll worship, as well as a healthy dose of support, release and camaraderie. See you down on the barrier!” Track 2 – ‘Company Of The Bar’ – released as a single on 14th July 2023 plus album announce ‘Company Of The Bar’ fuses three themes that have loomed large throughout Skinny Lister’s output – drinking, travelling and the sea. It combines these into one driving, no-nonsense, celebration of the virtues of hanging out down the pub with mates and loved ones. A simple sentiment, but one that is at the heart of the Skinny Lister philosophy. This is a song that has been built for the rugged road, and we can’t wait to hear it belted back at us on our upcoming US and UK Tours later this year! Track 3 – ‘Mantra’ – released as an instant grat on 15th September 2023 Sat amongst typically more driving and stomping tracks, the Lorna led ‘Mantra’ is a welcome moment of reflection, and a chance to take a breath during our new album ‘Shanty Punk’. With a hint of country and a nod to Cajun music, it brings a slightly different flavour to proceedings. It’s a chance for Lorna to release her inner Dolly Parton. The song is a reminder to recognise what we have while we have it, enjoy the moment. It’s all too easy to recognise what we had once it’s gone. Sometimes it’s good to not be looking forward or looking back, but to value the here and now. It’s about recognising the moment – reaching out and grabbing it with both hands.
