In this 2000 concert Emmylou Harris combined tasteful choices from her early repertoire with newer work, often her own compositions, backed by the band she called Spyboy, which featured the hard-working guitarist and singer Buddy Miller.

When Emmylou Harris arrived as a country radio artist in the mid 1970’s, she had an immediate and intense impact on a movement toward greater authenticity in country that also included artists like Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings. Nelson and Jennings came out of the Nashville industry and were breaking new ground in that industry, changing their looks and sounds to accommodate social and musical changes of the 1960’s that much of Nashville country had explicitly opposed. Harris, however, came from outside, an emissary to commercial country from the 1960’s folk and rock toward which Nashville mavericks were already leaning. With her dark, natural, hippie-ish beauty, her ethereally powerful soprano, and her fascination with the grittier roots of country music,Harris broke molds established for both women and new artists in Nashville country.
