“One of the pleasures of remixing is seeing how other people construct their music. Re-arranging the bricks in The Horrors’ wall of sound was a particular joy.” – Andrew Weatherall

The Horrors release a very special, limited edition (1000 copies worldwide), deluxe boxed set of the singles and videos from ‘Skying’. The set includes covers, reworkings, remixes and more, across two CDs, four 12”s and a DVD.

“We were driving through the deserts of California when we hatched the plan to release a boxed set of the singles from ‘Skying’, unaware that it would balloon into the monster that it did. […] We encouraged everyone involved to be as obtuse as possible, to get as far away from the original source material as they could. The results are stunning, and I think it\’s just a shame we couldn\’t have done more.” – Tom Furse, The Horrors

The box set features an eclectic collection of musicians, DJs and producers from widely contrasting genres but all fans and friends of The Horrors: Connan Mockasin, Seahawks, Andrew Weatherall, Blanck Mass, Peaking Lights, Cherrystones, Chris Watson, Daniel Avery, JTC and Andy Blake.

The images that make up the cover and boxed set package were created by celebrated young artist Leif Podhajsky, who has previously artworked releases by Lykke Li, Tame Impala and Grimes.

The Horrors are currently in the studio working on the follow-up to ‘Skying’.

Connan Mockasin has a deliciously off-kilter and gloriously idiosyncratic worldview. His ingenious approach to invention and a unique charm caught the attention of Erol Alkan, who signed Connan to his label Phantasy. Connan is most known for his eccentricity, his miasma of psychedelic tangents, jazz interludes and echoing guitars.

Cherrystones is the sound of psychedelia-soundtracks-folk-rock-prog-noise-moog-AND-library-records. Music that takes its inspiration from rock ‘n’ roll and applied in a hip hop context. For the last two years he has been amassing the choicest cuts that could very possibly put Madlib to shame.

Chris Watson is one of the world’s leading recorders of wildlife and natural phenomena, editing his field recordings into a filmic narrative. The unearthly groaning of ice in an Icelandic glacier is a classic example of, in Watson\’s words, putting a microphone where you can\’t put your ears. His ‘Weather Report’ album was named in The Guardian’s 1000 Albums To Hear Before You Die list. He is also a founding member of post punk outfit Cabaret Voltaire.

While Daniel Avery may be better known for his residency behind the decks at London institution Fabric, he is fast rising as a respected producer. His induction into the fabriclive mix series provides compelling evidence of this, a dizzy trip that highlights Avery’s skill as both a curator and a creator of some of the most inventive and forward thinking electronic sounds emerging today.

Blanck Mass is Benjamin John Power, a young musician in thrall to Carl Sagan, Ennio Morricone and the infinity of nature. His work is themed around complexity of the natural world. The debut album ‘Blanck Mass’ was produced at home in London 2010 and features a collection of warm analogue synths, heavy sub and deep drones.

Seahawks were formed by Jon Tye and Pete Fowler back in 2009. Spurred on by their love of Yacht Rock and Cosmic Synth they somehow fused the two, resulting in a series of now super rare 12”s compiled on the ‘Ocean Trippin’ CD. They remixed Badly Drawn Boy and Born Blonde, before releasing the ‘Another Summer With Seahawks’ collection and a 7” featuring pop sensation Autre Ne Veut. ‘Invisible Sunrise’ followed in 2011 along with many more remixes.

Andrew Weatherall’s extraordinary twenty-five year career in music has been characterized by a series of unique partnerships. He has released nineteen albums, thirty or so EPs and singles plus more than two hundred and fifty remixes.

Andy Blake founded the legendary Dissident label, famous for releasing analogue oddities on quality vinyl pressings from emerging as well as established artists. Now sadly defunct, Blake continues pushing music boundaries as a DJ remixer.

Tadd Mullinix makes spaced-out house tracks as JTC (James T Cotton), one of his many guises devoted to a specific production style. This particular alias debuted in 2001 on Ghostly International with the ‘Mind Your Manners’ single.
