Droppin' Science takes its name from a track off the Marley Marl 1988 album In Control Vol. 1 and is essentially an updated version of the classic and hugely successful Blue Break Beats albums. This is a unique collection of the legendary label's classic late-60's to mid-70's jazz-funk tracks, all of which have featured prominently as samples in some of the greatest hip hop cuts of the 90's and beyond. Hip hop artists ranging from Dr. Dre to the Beastie Boys and A Tribe Called Quest have sampled Blue Note grooves by such jazz greats as Lou Donaldson, Grant Green, Donald Byrd and Lonnie Smith. All of these original Blue Note tracks have been compiled here for the first time - with 13 tracks on both the digital download and double vinyl releases. By the 80's the use of sampling and breakbeats in hip hop was well established and those artists that were pushing the envelope were turning to other areas for their inspiration - a search which led many to the world of jazz...and to Blue Note. This is a fantastic chance to re-connect Blue Note and their great artists with the generations that followed who have been raised on hip hop without really knowing where these incredible samples came from
