To take stock of Thrice’s discography is to witness the dramatic evolution of a band perpetually committed to pushing their own creative boundaries, taking their music to new and breathtaking heights of expression and challenging fans to explore each startling soundscape the group conjures, while simultaneously promoting social awareness and change. Originally released in 2009, Beggars served as the follow up to 2007’s ambitious The Alchemy Index projects. Feeling that their previous two albums had a sleepy feeling to them, Thrice wanted to make a record that was more upbeat and energetic. They succeeded with a Billboard Top 50 debut. Vocalist/guitarist Dustin Kensrue called Beggars, “more visceral and more raw – both in the songwriting and in the overall sound. It moves with a different energy than any of our past records. It was born out of us playing together in a room, almost as a backlash to the giant headgame that was The Alchemy Index.”
