This one-and-only recorded collaboration between jazz greats Geri Allen and Kurt Rosenwinkel took place live at the famed Philharmonie de Paris in 2012. The two play as if with one mind. Geri spoke often of her desire to do a studio recording to document the ‘flow and freedom’ she experienced playing with Kurt that night in Paris. Unfortunately, we lost her before that studio session ever materialized, but fortunately, that concert was recorded. The acoustics in the hall are magnificent. Produced by Kurt Rosenwinkel and Motéma’s Jana Herzen and dedicated to Geri’s memory, this album is truly a ‘lovesome thing’ for fans of Geri, of Kurt, and of piano and guitar jazz fans at large. The late Geri Allen is world renowned as an artist, educator, composer and influencer. She was inducted into the Downbeat Hall Of Fame 2022. This is her 26th album as a leader. Her fans will surely clamour for this record. Kurt Rosenwinkel is one of the most respected guitarists in jazz. He has been steadily on tour and much in the press for his acclaimed 2022 and 2023 albums ‘The Chopin Project’, ‘Berlin Baritone’ and ‘Undercover (Live at the Village Vanguard)’. Kurt Rosenwinkel will perform an album release event in Paris in November at Sunset/Sunside Jazz Club in duo with Gerald Clayton in tribute to Geri Allen.

Some quotes on Geri Allen:

“A piano powerhouse with dazzling technique, a post-bop composer who, while steeped in jazz tradition, was also a restless, profoundly creative experimentalist.” – Downbeat Hall Of Fame 2022;

“The jazz world is only beginning to catch up to where [Geri Allen] left off.” – Chamber Music Magazine;

“Geri Allen has always been a shining example of creativity, openness, courage, and selflessness. She truly has had a great influence on my style and approach to music thanks to her innate genius. Her passing into eternity is a great loss to our family of musical creators but her influence will continue to grow.” – Herbie Hancock

Some quotes on Kurt Rosenwinkel:

“Among his generation of jazz musicians, Kurt Rosenwinkel has to be the most beloved guitarist.” – NPR;

“Kurt Rosenwinkel can say more in a few lines (of music) than most guitarists manage over the course of an entire career.” – The New York Times
