Originally issued in 2008, Weezer’s nuanced sixth studio album, aka the Red Album, is the band’s third self-titled color-coded affair following their landmark 1994 debut (The Blue Album) and 2001 comeback (The Green Album). In frontman Rivers Cuomo’s own words the Rick Rubin and Jacknife Lee co-produced record “…is meaty, crunchy and melodic like a good Weezer album should be” yet “…definitely more sophisticated and adventurous. You’ll hear very long songs and non-traditional structures.” The exploratory release stands as Weezer’s lone effort to feature lead vocals from all four band members although its Cuomo’s quirky and catchy numbers like “Pork and Beans” and “Troublemaker” that make the greatest impact.
