The third re-release from Peter Hammill’s k group, ‘The Margin’ gives an insight into the furious energy of the beat music Hammill’s cracking live band produced. It is being re-released on 180g heavyweight audiophile vinyl.
‘The Margin’ features the original masters from the 1985 release, which were live recordings from the band’s early 80s performances without the audience background sounds, allowing for a focus on what was happening on the stage.
Primarily known as singer and songwriter for Van der Graaf Generator, throughout forty-plus years of performing, Hammill’s work has encompassed singer-songwriter balladry, orchestral/ambient experiments, brutal noise-based rock, ambitious prog epics and 34 solo albums. His work has led to him receiving two Prog Awards: the first ever Visionary Award in 2012; and the second is the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016 alongside VdGG bandmates.
Peter Hammill performed with the K group in the early 80s, following VdGG’s second split, writing more songbased, punchy new-wave rock. Originally set up as a touring band for Peter Hammill’s solo work, Hammill brought material to the studio, where the band gave fresh and energetic backing to Hammill’s philosophical lyrics.
