Like many artists before him, Cory Chisel first connected with the power of song, and the spellbinding possibilities of live performance, through the music he heard in church. The gospel’s rich vernacular of loss and redemption also informed his innate poetic sense and lyrical range. Chisel, the son of a Baptist preacher was raised in Babbitt, MN and later Appleton, WI.

His debut album Death Won’t Send A Letter, received great critical acclaim both in the U.S. and abroad. Chisel was named one of Rolling Stone Magazine’s ‘Best New Artists’. In 2010 he appeared alongside Tom Waits, Jim James, Andrew Bird and more on the award winning Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s album Preservation. He has toured the world including appearances at Glastonbury, Newport Folk Festival and Bonnaroo.

Chisel’s sophomore release, Old Believers was recorded with longtime collaborator Brendan Benson at the helm. Recorded in Nashville, TN with members of The Cardinals, the album features an older, wiser narrative from Chisel with gritty live production and an awe inspiring 30 different types of instruments. 180g vinyl pressing with download card.

In Chisel’s own words: “I think one of the best things about being a songwriter and about living a life as an artist, is that you really don’t get rid of anything, you kind of just drag it with you the rest of your life, and hopefully you can feel that on this record. We’re still dancing with those same inspired moments. This record is a culmination of all that.”
