US nu-folk singer, Marissa Nadler, emerged as part of the burgeoning ‘weird-folk’ scene spearheaded by Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsome in the early 21st century. Nadler’s first album, BALLADS OF LIVING AND DYING, made enough word-of-mouth waves to attract the attention of Espers who acted as the backing band on her next effort, 2005’s THE SAGA OF MAYFLOWER MAY. The collection of gothic folk ballads earned her glowing reviews and comparisons to the legendary Sandy Denny. In 2007 Nadler was picked up by the label Peacefrog–who released Jose Gonzalez’s mega-selling album VENEER–for her third album, SONGS III: BIRD ON THE WATER.
