Growing up on the west Wales coastline, singer and harpist Georgia Ruth became accustomed to sea mists, strange sounds and the melancholy beauty of the Sandy Denny songs found in her mother’s record collection.

Quickly gathering support for her hybrid of folk and blues, Georgia has performed at Glastonbury, Swn Festival, Greenman Festival and at HMV’s Next Big Thing Festival. She has opened shows for artists such as Damien Jurado, Sweet Billy Pilgrim and Seth Lakeman. In 2011, her version of old Appalachian song, ‘Old Blue’, was chosen by Bethan Elfyn as ‘MPFree of the Day’ on the 6 Music Morning Show.

Now, aged 23, she presents a new and original collection of songs that recall those early inherited sounds to startling effect. Recorded and produced by David Wrench in the winter- stillness of Snowdonia’s Bryn Derwen Studios, the ‘In Luna’ EP features a wealth of sounds: vibraphones, pianos and organs combine with the harp to create a resonant and slow-burning warmth. Y Niwl’s Pete Richardson guests on drums, with Pete Walton on double bass and producer Wrench on vibraphones.

Georgia cites Van Morrisson’s ‘Astral Weeks’ and Tim Buckley’s ‘Once I Was’ as having provided inspiration during the recording process. The four beautifully crafted songs are inspired by loss, in its various forms: whether from a personal viewpoint, or through imagined characters and their stories. Throughout, Georgia’s haunting voice remains a constant. The result is delicate, timeless and transcendent.
