AlunaGeorge have shared full details of their second full-length album I Remember, which will be released September 16th on Island Records (UK) and Interscope Records (US). Alongside, they have shared new single ‘Mean What I Mean’, which is available to stream and download now.

Featuring rappers Dreezy and Leikeli47, ‘Mean What I Mean’ finds the perfect spot between heady club swagger and sweet earworm melody, making for an empowering mission statement as well as instant summer party anthem.

The follow up to their acclaimed debut full length Body Music and ensuing A-list collaborations (2015’s frenetic ‘To Ü’ with Skrillex & Diplo, DJ Snake’s chart-slaying version of ‘You Know You Like It’ – one of the most streamed songs of all time), I Remember features 12 new tracks. It includes ecstatically received singles ‘I’m In Control’ feat, Popcaan, ‘My Blood’ feat. ZHU and the album title track, produced by Flume, which have seen the duo of singer and lyricist Aluna Francis and producer George Reid confidently resume their place at the vanguard of cutting edge pop.

Written and recorded in focused bursts of creativity in LA and London, the album sees them confidently maintain their unique sonic palette while pushing forward into bolder territories, channeling personal experience into a delicious mélange of pop styles. “We were going for that holy grail of songwriting,” says Aluna. “It was an attitude of ‘let’s see what else we can do’,” adds George. At the same time, it marks an opening of their creative process to new inputs and influences, as exemplified in its diverse list of collaborators.

Aluna says, “It started to feel a bit like we had all these friends in music that we liked hanging out with but we haven’t shared AlunaGeorge with anyone else, and at some point we were like ‘why not?’ Let’s open it up a bit more. We wanted to let people in a bit more now that we’re more confident in our sound”.

Songs like ‘I’m In Control’, ‘Mean What I Mean’ and cathartic album opener ‘Full Swing’ represent one of the lyrical themes that permeate through the album. “There’s an element lyrically about me trying to embrace some real confidence as a woman and applying it rather than just having it in my head as a concept,” Aluna says. Elsewhere, ‘Mediator’ sees the duo exploring new sonic approaches, forgoing electronics in favour of live drums, bass, guitar and a low-slung groove more akin to vintage 70s soul.

It’s a microcosm for the album as whole: bolder, more instinctively adventurous, but still retaining that core songwriting brilliance to make it all work. “Me and George just love a classic song,” Aluna states. With I Remember, they’ve made a whole album’s worth.

Following high profile sets at Coachella and Glastonbury, AlunaGeorge will resume their mammoth North American ‘I’m In Control’ tour in July, ahead of dates supporting Sia on her ‘Nostalgic for the Present’ tour in October and November.
