New European label Hidden Charms take digging in the crates to a new level with this stunning compilation of 14 original 78s from 1927 to 1933, originally released on Vocalion, Victor and Brunswick. The hard work is all done for you! Some of the earliest exponents of recorded American music are represented here, including Tampa Red’s Hokum Jug Band, Bumble Bee Slim, Kansas City Kitty & Georgia Tom with a melting pot of jug bands, blues, country, hot jazz, medicine show songsters. Terms such as “blues, bluegrass and swing” were in their infancy when these tracks were recorded, let’s just call it indigenous American music!
