Glasgow indie-punk band Heavy Rapids debut EP ‘Cash In Hand’ Is a flurry of riffs and impassioned proclamations on everyday routines and situations, as well as social predicaments particular to their hometown, and the UK in general.

They were chosen as RSD winners by Radio 1’s Phil Taggart, Jamie Oborne (Dirty Hit – 1975 manager) and Natasha Youngs (Resident).

Opener ‘Going Down’ slams down the door with vigorous enthusiasm fueled by Airline insurance scandals, followed by a punk blast through ‘Infected Nightmares (Frankenstein)’, which takes a swipe at our unhealthy social media addiction. ‘Hurricane E’ takes the third spot as the EP’s most inward looking track, Dillon and Jamie take turns expressing the stresses that are developed as a result of growing up in today’s society where we are all fighting to make something of ourselves.

Our only time to rid ourselves of the crippling vulnerability is at the weekend where we seek mindful recuperation with our closest friends. Closing out ‘Cash In Hand’ is the unruly ‘Paisley Pattern’. It’s about the vicious cycle of violence and crime in the town the band have grown up in. As guitarist Jamie Crawford says, “it’s a working class town with a lot of great history but in the last 40 years it has seen its decline into a notorious crime hot spot.” The EP’s title is a proclamation in itself about the dying out days of brown envelopes with a days cash for a days work. Now the government needs to see your income down to the penny just so they can make sure you pay your fair share, we can be sure they are paying theirs, can’t we?

All tracks have seen significant support from radio including Amazing Radio, Radio X and BBC Radio 1’s love as Tune Of The Week on Jack Saunders Indie Show. Heavy Rapids have seen a steady progression into the UK music scene spotlight since their inception in 2017. Festival appearances at this year’s Camden Rocks, Y Not, Live at Leeds and The Great Escape on the Creative Scotland showcasing stage have garnered the attention of press with the likes of Upset Magazine and Dork running features on the band. In the past, Heavy Rapids have supported Cabbage (multiple dates), Starcrawler, Strange Bones and Bloody Knees to name a few.

Press say the bands live shows are “Feisty, loud and exuberant” – Little Indie Blogs and NME took the time to point them out amongst other up and comers from the Glasgow scene “Heavy Rapids’ modus operandi: unruly, boisterous, invigorating” – NME.

Heavy Rapids have also announced their first ever headline jaunt – a 4 date tour of their homeland, hitting up Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee.
