This is the newly reissued vinyl pressing of Brilliant Corners, which was Thelonious Monk’s third album for the Riverside label, but his first to weigh in with such heavy original material. This album may well be considered the alpha and omega of post-World War II American jazz. No serious jazz collection should be without it. The album also features performances by Max Roach, Sonny Rollins, Ernie Henry, Paul Chambers and Clark Terry. Following Monk’s first two albums on Riverside which were devoted to standards, this was the first record that allowed Monk to demonstrate and express himself through his own writing.
