To music connoisseurs, Tim Hardin is mostly known for writing and recording songs that other artists had great success with. Bobby Darin made his “If I Were A Carpenter” famous and Rod Stewart made an impactful
rendition of Hardin’s “Reason To Believe”. His own recording career is arguably one of the music industry’s best kept secrets. The singer-songwriter delivered a few superb albums in the late sixties, but due to drug related problems his output declined and he vanished from the scene in the mid seventies until he died in 1980. We can only be glad that his soulful, bluesy way of delivering heartfelt and emotional songs will live on forever. On his fourth studio album Bird On A Wire (1971), he mixes his own compositions (“Soft Summer Breeze”, “Moonshiner”, “Southern Butterfly”) with covers such as the title track (written by Leonard Cohen) and a beautiful rendition of the classic “Georgia On My Mind”. Essential material for fans of Tim Buckley and Leonard Cohen.
