‘Alone: Volume 1’ is an outstanding compilation of live performances at New York’s Hunter College from 1976.

Not having to concern himself with the needs of a drummer or a bassist, John Lee Hooker is especially introspective and doesn’t hesitate to let loose and improvise on such familiar tunes as ‘Boogie Chillen’, ‘Boom Boom’ and ‘One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer’.

Originally released in 1995, ‘Alone: Volume 2’ is the second set of Hooker’s 1970s solo concert at New York City’s Hunter College – a brooding lesson in the ‘Three Ds’ of the blues – despair, death and desire.

Hooker enjoys improvisation as much as a jazz musician and on these magnificent recordings he is at his most uninhibited taking one liberty after another.

New album art with a cover photo by Dick Waterman.

Liner notes by Robert Palmer.

First time on vinyl. Released on Fat Possum Records to celebrate the label’s 25th anniversary.
