Swedish psyche-folk ensemble Dungen is in reality the work of one man, Gustav Ejstes. Inspired by classic rock, 1970s jazz fusion, ’60s pastoral psychedelia, and traditional Swedish folk music, Dungen creates an astoundingly accurate facsimile of the best outré pop music of the hippie era, right down to the use of vintage instruments. Despite lyrics sung in Ejstes’s native language, Dungen made surprising headway in the U.S. in 2005, going on to play the popular Bonaroo music festival in the summer of 2006.
