The Ghost Who Walks is the XL debut for catwalk model turned songstress Karen Elson. Her musical talents have been bubbling under the surface for many years now, having dipped her toe in the waters as a singer with the New York cabaret collective The Citizen’s Band on a number of occasions. Her version of “Candy Says” has been particularly well received by some high profile friends – Michael Stipe picked one of her then rare studio recordings for a compilation he put together for Uncut Magazine, and she also worked with Robert Plant on his “Dreamland” album. She duetted with Cat Power on a Serge Gainsbourg tribute album, and it’s without doubt that these two singers have had a huge influence on the style Karen’s LP “. Pop noire is the order of the day, with a splash of mellow dark country. Perhaps Karen’s been waiting patiently for the right team to help her craft the perfect LP, and it’s clear that her husband Jack White has suggested a thing or two, although he remains very much in the background, credited only with drums and mixing!
This very limited edition LP is out on Jack’s Third Man label, and we have a limited number of import copies now available.
