KOC’s second album “Quiet Is The New Loud” was released with impeccable timing at a lull in the UK music industry. The indie guitar scene was still trying to find its way after the ashes of Brit-Pop had been scattered, whilst dance music was becoming far too grimey and urban. Just as the Stone Roses united these two genres in the late 80s, KOC accidentally spawned a whole new scene of acoustic artists, taking things back to basics. Techno DJs such as Jose Gonzalez and Fink were quick to react, whilst Turin Brakes broke through to the mainstream. Belle & Sebastian were on hand to say “I told you so”!
KOC’s blissful mellow pop took influence from UK and US folk - Nick Drake and Simon & Garfunkel being the main protagonists.
Erlend Oye capitalized on his successes by becoming a much sought after producer and DJ. A follow up album came in 2004, and after a similar break, the guys have regrouped to produce a brand new album “Declaration Of Dependence”, which is release this month.
